ดาร์เรนได้ออกมาเปิดเผยว่าเขาเป็นเกย์ผ่านบทสัมภาษณ์ในวันที่ 15 สิงหาคม 2013 โดยเขาก็ถือเป็นนักมวยปล้ำอาชีพคนแรกที่ออกมาเปิดเผยว่าเป็นเกย์ในขณะที่กำลังเล่นให้กับดับเบิลยูดับเบิลยูอีอยู่[33][34]
